Why Are There Different Types of AI?
Artificial Intelligence is not one single technology that can do everything.
Different AI systems are created for different purposes. Some systems are designed to perform one specific task, while others are imagined to handle a much wider range of tasks.
For example, an AI system that recommends movies does not have the same abilities as an AI system designed to recognize objects in images.
Because AI systems can have very different abilities, researchers commonly describe them using different categories.
One common way to classify AI is based on how much it can do.
Using this idea, AI is often discussed in three broad categories:

Narrow AI
Narrow AI is Artificial Intelligence designed to perform a specific task or a limited group of related tasks.
This is the type of AI we use most often today.
Narrow AI can become very good at the task it was designed for, but it does not automatically know how to perform every other task.
Think About a Calculator
A calculator is very good at performing mathematical calculations.
But you cannot ask a normal calculator to recognize a face, understand a conversation, or recommend a movie.
Narrow AI works with a similar idea. It is built to solve a particular type of problem.
Examples of Narrow AI
Here are some examples you may already use:
- Face recognition — identifies or matches faces in images.
- Recommendation systems — suggest videos, movies, or products.
- Spam filters — identify messages that may be unwanted.
- Voice assistants — understand spoken commands and respond to them.
- Navigation systems — help find routes and estimate travel times.
Each of these systems can be highly capable within its intended task, but that does not mean it has human-like intelligence in every area.

For example, an AI system that detects spam emails may be excellent at identifying suspicious messages.

Unlike Narrow AI, which is designed for specific tasks, General AI would not be limited to just one particular ability.
Imagine a person who can learn mathematics, understand languages, solve problems, learn new skills, and adapt to completely new situations.
General AI is the idea of creating a machine with this kind of broad ability.
How Would General AI Be Different?
Imagine you have an AI system that can identify cats in photographs.
That system may be excellent at identifying cats, but it cannot automatically become a teacher, doctor, programmer, or musician.
A General AI system would be designed to handle many different kinds of tasks.

Does General AI Exist Today?

To understand the idea, imagine an AI that could perform scientific research, write software, understand languages, solve difficult mathematical problems, and create new ideas better than the best human experts.
That is the basic idea behind Super AI.
Is Super AI Real Today?
No.
Super AI is a hypothetical concept. There is currently no AI system that has been proven to be more intelligent than humans across every area of intelligence.
Today's AI systems can be extremely capable in specific areas, but that is different from having intelligence that surpasses humans in every area.
